FIRST VISIT TO LEE MILLS

On Tuesday 4th March we took our first visit to the Lee Mills Archive. Our aims for this was to get to know the people who work their and discuss with them what pieces from the archive they thought were of value or interest. Possibly something with a story behind it.
This discussion was held over lunch, they said that the items were collected for the purpose of historical reasoning rather than having stories behind them. They asked us to partake in some sorting of unorganised items and happily agreed.
We organised some Patons patterns that the Coats company had kindly donated to the archive, Barbara said there was about 46 crates with 40 files in each! Nearly every single hand knit pattern printed by Patons from the 1920s to present. As a group we decided that the Selvedge article would not be about just interesting items from the archive but about our experience in volunteering there and the hidden treasures that we discover on our journey.

DESIGN IDEA

We thought that the layout of some 1920's patterns were quite attractive to the eye and considered this as inspiration for the layout of our article
