The U boats destroyed 44 Q ships, unfortunately
some sunk without a trace. But some good news eventually came to the British as
the Q ships destroyed 15 enemy boats as many other submarines were having to
limp back to port for repairs. But again the downside of the Q boats had
sustained critical and damaging loses. In WW1 there was about 70 battles
between the Q and U boats. The most confrontational battle that they fought was
off the Devon coast, which involved the HMS Stock Force in 1918. Unfortunately
the boat was hit and fatally sunk in Bigbury Bay by the opposing U boat after
luring the German vessel to the surface.
